Dear Sister Going Through Finals

Let me begin by reminding you about GRACE! Going hard on yourself during one of the most stressful weeks of the year will not prove to be beneficial. Your brain is in overload, your body is exhausted, and every other part of you is feeling the weight of it all. Grace is knowing that when you studied so hard for that exam, your effort will make itself known. Besides extending lots and lots of grace to yourself, remember that grades DO NOT define you!!!

I cannot emphasize that enough. I learned the hard way myself that mentally tearing myself down starts a trail of negativity, when the only thing in my mind should be positivity and grace for myself. When you’re studying so hard, and are so tired, remember the good that is coming from your degree and the opportunities in your job that you can spread the grace that Jesus extends to us daily.

Another huge mental battle during finals week is identity. In the notes on my phone I list my academic goals and under I have “college and grades DO NOT define me! Diligence in my work and prayer in everything.”

Now, this might make you think I’m crazy and that’s totally okay, because I’m crazy about my sanity when it comes to being consumed by my grades and my performance in school! If we place our identity in things that are fleeting, we are only setting ourselves up for disappointment later down the road. Finals is a time to have the most belief, faith, and confidence in yourself! Any doubts that enter your mind are not from the Lord.

As 2 Corinthians 2:5 says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Throw away thoughts that are not from the Lord, and only set your thoughts on uplifting thoughts. Place your identity in Christ, the only perfect, remaining figure, and you will feel so secure that no grades or fear of finals can define your worth!

Might I also mention that giving yourself a pep talk also helps during the hustle and bustle of finals. Speaking life over yourself is crucial! There is the power of life and death in your tongue. If you speak success, favor, and blessing over yourself, you will receive the success, favor and blessing of God over you! A study tip I have for you is to pray, and give your study time to the Lord before you start. Pray for efficiency, clarity, recall, and understanding over yourself as you begin to dive into your books! YOU’VE GOT THIS!!! I am praying for you, and cheering you on all the way from Birmingham, AL!!!
