Devotion: Genesis 1-3 (Day 1 of 365)

1/1/2018

Read Genesis 1-3, Focus on Genesis 2:25-3:11

To go from a world of no shame to hiding from the Lord in shame. (2:25 & 3:8)

That is such a picture for us. God came walking into the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day, sounds like He did this often. Have you ever done something that the thought of getting caught made you want to hide? Or when you've done something you know wasn't right and you know things cannot go back to how they were.

Whether it was between you and a friend, a parent, or whomever. We have all been there.

We have all felt shame.

Shame is powerful.

I probably don't have to explain what shame feels like to you because in one way or another, we have all felt it.

Shame's best friend is fear. Take a closer look at Genesis 3:10. Afraid because of his shame, Adam and Eve hide themselves.

More than this they tried to fix it themselves. Genesis 3:7, tells us they tried to sew clothes for themselves. This was an attempt to redeem themselves and hide what caused them to feel shame. It didn't work.

Covering our shames never do.

The good news is: we don't have to cover our sins and shames. Not only would it be impossible to but God in His love and mercy paved a way for us to not COVER ourselves but to be CLEAN. To be free from our shame.

This way is Jesus Christ. He is the Way.

Because we fell, God sent His only son to Earth - He never sinned. He was perfect. We could never be perfect. We could never cover ourselves. God had to. You can rest in being CLEANED by Christ. 1 John 1:19 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (NASB)
