Psalm 126 | Heart of Deliverance Amidst Captivity

3/22/2019

"When the Lord brought back the captive ones of Zion, we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with joyful shouting; then they said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.'

The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.

Restore our captivity, O' Lord, as the streams in the South.

Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting.

He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him."

Psalm 126:1-6

My prayer for you today is this:

That even if your season is one of famine or you have been held captive by something whether it be circumstance, addiction, sorrow, loss, anxiety, or struggle of any kind...

This chapter in Psalms reminds us this, although the captivity has been reality so is the rescue; so is the harvest.

"The Lord brought back the captive ones." (verse 1) They were captive in every way.

Imagine being brought back home after being ripped from the land of your ancestors. Imagine being persecuted viciously for your faith. The Lord brought them back, like those who dream. It was like a dream to them because they had lived a very real nightmare.

Restore our captivity. That is my prayer today. For you and for me. Lord, RESTORE this. Restore us.

Verse 5 is a promise: "Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting."

Your tears are never wasted or unseen by Him. He will make beauty from these ashes. He will restore. He will make beauty from your captivity. He will bring you home.

The promise continues, "He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, shall INDEED come again with a shout of JOY, bringing his sheaves with him." (verse 6)

In other words, you have a choice to carry the bag of seed you've been given. Even if it means carrying it into the wilderness or into the captive land. Do you carry the bag of seeds you've been given? This means loving others there. This means embracing the call He has placed on your life, yes EVEN NOW.

You have a mission and it isn't to be continued once the restoration comes. It is to be lived even in the wilderness... as you go. Wherever that is, because you will come again with shouts of JOY. There will be a GOOD harvest from this. From these seeds. You will come back with sheaves. Even in the darkest of places, actually.... especially in the darkest of places.

God, restore our captivity. May we carry this bag of seeds You have given as we know You will bring beauty from this. You will bring LIFE from this. As You walk with us, this we know. You never leave and there will be beauty, even here. We thank You for the glory You are creating in this place, for Your kingdom. For Your heart is good, always.

In Christ name we pray, Amen!

Love,

Elizabeth Foil
