Dealing with Anxiety and Doubt | Spotlight: Rachel Butts

7/14/2018

Meet Rachel Butts. I've known Rachel for years and have looked up to her as long as I have known her!! She is one of those people who is so genuine - I always thought, I want to be like this woman because she is BRAVE. Brave enough to be real and honest about where she is.

When Rachel agreed to let me interview her as the first LaceDevotion spotlight I was, in a word, excited. Here is some of her story and how she lives Life Acclaiming Christ Everyday, enjoy!

When asked what her mission fields are Rachel replied: "dental office where I work, home life, connect group my husband and I run with another couple and the bridal store I work at on some weekends."

Basically, wherever God has her...

To her living Life Acclaiming Christ Everyday starts at home, more specifically every morning reading in God's Word. It starts with her daily devotion. She also spends time in prayer and something that helped her a great deal when learning how to pray was PRAISE.

P - praise

R - repentance

A - acknowledge

I - intercession
S - supplication
E - equipped

Rachel wanted so badly to learn a way to pray that was not all the same, she wanted to be intentional about her prayer life and a friend/mentor shared the PRAISE prayer order with her to help her think through her prayers.

- "Acknowledge the Lord in daily things is a huge deal for me. Point to Him in conversations is KEY." Rachel loves talking to people and she LOVES to talk about Jesus. So, she intentionally brings Him up in her daily conversations. Making Him know with people she talks to regularly and those she is having a passing conversation with.

- "Pray to be more intentional with people." Rachel admits to wanting to be more intentional and so, she is specifically asking God to show her how to do just that.

- "I am mostly passionate about marriage, self-worth, and the battle of the mind."

Her testimony:

Rachel was saved when she was in middle school but she wasn't really discipled. This is one of many reasons she is passionate about young women. She was an active participant of FCA but even as she began college she was knee deep in doubt over her faith. She wondered, am I really saved? "I've been part of all this stuff but something still felt off," she recalls. Her life cycle of doubt and anxiety continued even as she was planning her wedding to the love of her life; Chris.

She married Chris Butts in 2015 and through his example of faith, she saw the Christian walk really lived out. She wanted to desire to read God's Word and share the Gospel but she still was held down by doubt.

She had been the President of a Baptist Collegiate Chapter and married a Godly man... she couldn't come forward now. Another tactic the devil used to feed her doubt and anxiety that this might just be where she'd remain.

Then in December of 2016, she saw a friend at her home church (Hebron Baptist in Dacula) get baptized after having dealt with similar doubts and fear of coming forward. This was her moment. She looked at Chris, "I have to go."

No more waiting, Rachel went forward ready to get it settled. God never stopped fighting for Rachel's heart.

Instead of being received in the way she was fearful, so many poured love on her! She still struggles with anxiety but was finally able to sleep through the night and enjoy church.

"He pursued my heart. Everyone was accepting. This helped me make it during dad having cancer. God gave me peace."

Her dad is now in remission and doing well but she thanks God for the peace He continues to give her about all areas of life.

Rachel loves to ponder on Romans 8:28, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (NASB)

"It is about believing Him for His Word," she continues. "Grab the thought and throw it away. Give up social media if needed. Note your triggers."

Whether your anxiety is about the future or things that haven't happened...

Philippians 4:8 tells us, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."

Distinguish the Lord's voice from Satan.

"If only I knew how much He loved me and planned for me back then!! Be patient in the waiting seasons, take it day by day. He is preparing you for something GREATER. Focus on the Lord and let Him prepare you instead of trying to rush life."

AND, "wait on the one the Lord has for you! Chris loves me for me and he walked with me!"
